People: Listen! Wisdom is calling! Poured into our hearts that we may become Christs hand and heart, love.

ALL: Listen! Wisdom is calling! Let us worship God.

*GATHERING HYMN:  “This Is My Father’s World” # 59

PRAYER OF INVOCATION: Spirit of Wisdom and Hope, we witness your glory in the heavens and hear your call to us. Your compassionate care abounds in our lives and the lives of those we love. Open our hearts this day to hear and respond to your call so that we may serve you faithfully and welcome all. AMEN.

Let us pray as Christ taught us to pray. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

STATEMENT OF FAITH: We believe in God known to us in three persons: Creator of all, resurrected Christ, and the Holy Spirit, who guides and brings about the creative and redemptive work of Gods love in the world.
We believe that each person is unique and valuable.
We believe that we are called to welcome each person who is on a
spiritual journey, no matter who they are or where they are on that
journey.
We believe that the persistent search for God produces an authentic
relationship with God, one that engenders love, strengthens faith,
dissolves guilt, and gives life purpose and direction.
We believe we are a people of possibility.
We believe we have the breathing room to explore and to hear our call. We believe that God is still speaking…

*SERMON HYMN: “Creating God, Creating Still” # 62

WORD OF GOD:  Proverbs 8:1-4, and  22-31 and Romans 5:1-5

(Pew Bible: Proverbs pp. 552 and 553, Romans p. 980)

Does not wisdom call and understanding raise her voice?
On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand;
beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: “To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all who live.

22 “The Lord created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago.
23 Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth, 26 when he had not yet made earth and fields or the world’s first bits of soil.
27 When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, 29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, 30 then I was beside him, like a master worker, and I was daily his delight, playing before him always, 31 playing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race.

Romans 5:1-5

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Sermon Title: “Creator, Spirit, and Beloved Child” Rev. Norman Michaud

CALL TO PRAYER:

Pastor: May God be with you.

People: And also with you.

Silent Prayer

Pastoral Prayer:

Triune Creator, from before the beginning of time, you offered love and creative wisdom as you created all that may be known and unknown to us. In the person and ministry of Jesus you taught us more clearly about your nature, love, and gave to us ways that we should live peacefully together. The Holy Spirit is offered as our guardian and guide, faithfully with us all our days. Full and complete is your love for us, your creation. Help us, again, to be more faithful to you. Give us opportunities to witness and serve. Heal and restore us. For we ask these things in the name of Creator, Spirit and Christ. AMEN.

Choral Response: “Blessed Quietness” Manie Ferguson/W.S. Marshall

CALL TO GIVING: Living God, may our offerings work for justice and a more abundant life for all. May our offerings bring peace to everyone. May we make this season of renewal a testament to what love can make possible. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
